ALWAYS MAGESTIC - new work by Yvonne L. Rousseau
featured at Art Central Gallery October 2015
Artist Yvonne L. Rousseau says she “has had
the most fun”, with her newest series of paintings entitled, "ALWAYS
MAJESTIC," on display at Art Central during the month of October. They are inspired by the prideful peacock,
who flaunts, boasts, struts and squawks with a majestic, confident
attitude. Yvonne recalls that she knew a
new series was in the making when “on a plein aire (on site) painting day, one
special fellow caught my eye. He took a
short flight to a fence rail, looked in my direction as if to say ‘are you
ready to start my portrait,’ and he held his pose comfortably until I was
finished working and had packed my easel.”
Yvonne's post painting relationship continued with this beautiful bird
as he stayed around for her to shoot a great collection of photographs. .
The artist continues, ”Once my studio
painting was started, I decided to develop backgrounds that were interesting
but not competitive with my subject. The background of each painting is about
subtle textures, colors and rhythms created with crumpled papers, palette
knives, and brushstrokes. The backgrounds were as enjoyable to paint as the
peacocks.”
Each of the paintings describes a beautiful
bird that is ALWAYS MAJESTIC but with a slightly different twist. See Rousseau’s work and meet the artist on
the Third Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 5-8pm . Check www.artcgalleryltd.com to

"Wet & Wild"
new watercolors by Mary Ann Bridgman
featured September 2015 show
Recent watercolor scenes by Mary Ann Bridgman are inspired by watery wonderlands everywhere, but especially by those that make up so much of our beautiful Lowcountry.
The Bridgman family is enthusiastic about spending time in canoes and kayaks exploring the many rivers and creeks in the area. The historic Ashley and beautiful Edisto Rivers are favorite places to enjoy.
In “Gateway to the Edisto,” the river is visible beyond the large trees. The water is very smooth with detailed reflections, perfect for paddling at a leisurely pace.
“Don’t Get Lost” shows how easy it might be to lose oneself, or perhaps find oneself, in the serenity of a cypress swamp.
“Wet and Wild” will be on display at Art Central Gallery through the month of September 2015. Meet the artist at Third Thursday September 17, 2015 from 5-8pm. Visit www.artcgalleryltd.com for more images from the show and to find out more about Mary Ann.

Art Central is proud to feature new
designs by jeweler Judy Jacobs. “I’m
inspired by nature, especially birds,” says Jacobs. She is thrilled by the variety of color
combinations and shapes in leaves, wings and other details of Creation. “If you
look closely at the colors I use, you can almost identify the bird. Iridescent
hummingbirds, red, black and white from our variety of woodpeckers, exotic
birds from the Far East and South America,” she explains. “The one exception is
the use of green; those tones I pick from forest ferns.”
Jacobs set her sights on global
exploration early in life. First with the Red Cross and then as a military
spouse, she has lived in numerous Far Eastern and Middle Eastern countries, as
well as the South Pacific where her love of design with natural stones and
semi-precious materials flourished.
Along the way, the artist’s love of
nature, from stones formed deep in the earth to living creatures, matured into
one expression through jewelry. Jacobs’ new work includes a necklace with
light green chrysophase stones and a hand-blown glass pendant which is inspired
by a fern.
Another necklace includes an intricate Tibetan pendant with coral and lapis lazuli. This beautiful pendant brings to the artist’s mind one of the many parrots that lives in the rain forest.

"It's A Swamp Thing" paintings by Renee Bruce
Featured June 2015 show at Art Central Gallery:
What does your mind conjure up when you hear the word swamp? A dark, scary place where danger lurks at every turn? Perhaps that is the case in the movies, but for local artist, Renee Bruce, the swamp is anything but scary. It is full of light, color and pattern.
Bruce’s newest watercolor paintings will be on exhibit at Art Central Gallery during the month of June. “These works depict the first stirrings of spring in the swamp,” says the artist, “a time of anticipation and bright, fresh colors.” The lily of the valley is a sure harbinger of warmer weather to come, and “The Duck Box” is well-used but ready for another season. These paintings show the swamp to be a busy, colorful yet peaceful place.
Renee used a synthetic paper called "Yupo" for this latest work. The translucent version allows the artist to apply paint to both sides of the paper which gives the painting a lovely glow and color intensity.
Visit Art Central Gallery to see this collection, “It’s a Swamp Thing,” Monday-Saturday, 10-5, and meet the artist at the Third Thursday reception, June 18, 2015 5-8pm.

"Lowcountry Blooms" by Alexandra Kassing
“Lowcountry Blooms,” paintings by artist Alexandra Kassing, is the featured May 2015 show at Art Central Gallery in Summerville. “I am inspired each year by the colors of the Spring, as a flurry of new growth and blooms seems to fill almost every part of our lush lowcountry landscape,” said Kassing. “Besides the floral display, there seems to be a myriad of different shades of green.”
The show features familiar local scenes - such as palette knife oil sketches of various scenes around Summerville, majestic oaks, and even Summerville past in “The Pine Forest Inn” - a contemporary acrylic painting of the now disappeared landmark.
Images of azaleas feature prominently in the show, such as in “Azalea on the Ashley” pictured here. “Yes, there are a lot of azalea in this series,” laughs Kassing, “they are our Summerville flower for a reason! They never fail to inspire when they put on their yearly show.”
“Lowcountry Blooms” will be featured May 1-31, 2015 at Art Central. Meet the artist at the Third Thursday reception May 21 5-8 p.m.

"Renewal" by June Sullivan April 2015 featured show

Art Central Gallery is pleased to present June Sullivan's new photographic exhibit entitled "Renewal", which will be open through the month of April 2015.
Perhaps this time of year any winter seems worse than last year, but this winter in particular has been long and hard. For that reason, photographer June Sullivan is especially excited to think about spring and all it offers.
"I started to entitle this display 'Pieces of April'," Sullivan says, "after the old Three Dog Night love song that keeps running through my head. But, as I worked on it, I realized that it's something more. As God breathes his warm breath on the earth and it becomes green and colorful, it is more than the flowers, birds, and butterflies that burst forth. It is our very souls that expand with the balmy air and the dazzling color. The cold winter is gone; the earth is green; and we are renewed with the spring."
See more of Sullivan's work on our website below. Meet the artist at Art Central for the Third Thursday reception, April 16, 2015 5-8pm.
